Do Ismailis Follow the Quran?

This is a simple comparison between the texts of the Ismāʿīlīs versus text of the Qurʼān. Ismāʿīlīs reading the below can decide for themselves if they feel they are following the Qurʼān.

Supplications (Du’ā)

Tobo Tobo:
Tobo tobo taksidar, bando sarta pa guneghar, Ya Shah tu ghuna bakshe bakshanhar
Translation: I the humble slave repent, for I am sinful from head to my toes, Oh Shah Karim (Aga Khan) forgive me for you are the forgiver“And those who, when they have committed fahishah or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allāh and ask forgiveness for their sins; – and none can forgive sins but Allah…” [3:135]
Mushkil Asaan:
Mawlana Hazar Imam tumhare kul mushkilyo ahsan kare; Kul aafato, bhalao, bhimariyo, taklifo door kare; kul nek umedo puri khare; sukhi, salamat, aur abad rakhe
Translation: May Mawlana Hazar Imam relieve all your difficulties, remove all your trials, tribulations, and sicknesses; may he (Aga Khan) fulfill all your good wishes; and may he keep you safe and sound)Should Allāh touch you with affliction, there is none to remove it but He; and should He touch you with good, He has the power to do everything. He has the supreme hold over His servants. He is All-Wise, All-Aware.” [6:17-18]
Mawalana Hazar Imam Ruhani jah kul ghuna maaf kare, noorani dīdar naseeb kare, asal mein vasal kare
Translation: May Mawlana Hazar Imam forgive the deceased, grant them a spiritual meeting, and mix them in with the truth“Yet the disbelievers take as their gods things beneath Him that create nothing, and are themselves created, that can neither harm nor help themselves, and have no control over death, life, or resurrection.” [25:3]
Giryazari Tasbih:
Ya Ali, Ya noor mawlana shah karim al hussani hazir imam, tu gat jamar ke..
All of the prayers in the Giryazari Tasbi start with “Oh Ali, Oh noor mawlana shah karim al hussaini present living Imam..”It is You we worship and You we ask for help.” (1:5)

More relevant verses from the Qurʼān:

Is it not to Allāh that sincere devotion is due? But those who take for protectors other than Allāh (say): “We only serve them in order that they may bring us nearer to Allāh.” Truly Allāh will judge between them in that wherein they differ. But Allāh guides not such as are false and ungrateful.
When they board a ship, they supplicate Allāh, being sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, at once they associate others with Him.
[Qurʼān 29:65]
(Perhaps) they call on one whose hurt is nearer than his profit: evil, indeed, is the Maula, and evil the companion (or help)!
(The word ‘Maula’ here was kept in its Arabic form as that is the original word used in the Ayah)

Haq Tu Pak TuTranslationQuran
Rab tu(n) rahemaan tu(n) ya ali aval akhar kazi tu(n)hi tuYou are the Sustainer, You are the Merciful,
Oh Ali, You are the First and the Last Judge, You are indeed all.
“Those that you worship instead of Allāh are merely idols, and you are simply inventing lies (about them). Indeed those whom you worship beside Allāh have no power to provide you with any sustenance. So seek your sustenance from Allāh and serve only Him and give thanks to Him alone. It is to Him that you will be sent back.” [29:17]
Te upaayaa te nipaayaa sirjann haar ya ali tu(n)hi tuYou are the one who originated and You are the one who created,
Oh Ali you are the Creator, You are indeed all.
Allāh is the Creator of everything; He is the Guardian over everything.” [39:62]
Jal thal mull mandal haar naa ya ali hukam teraa bi tu(n)hi tuIn the water and on the land, You have laid the roots (foundations, of creation),
Oh Ali everything therein and on is at Your command, You are indeed all.
“Your Lord is God, who created the heavens and earth in six Days, then established Himself on the throne; He makes the night cover the day in swift pursuit; He created the sun, moon, and stars to be subservient to His command; all creation and command belong to Him.” [7:54]

Some other examples of the Imām being stated as, or compared to Allāh ﷻ :

Satagur Miliya Mune AajImaam Begum says: Listen o my brother! Hazarat ʿAlī and Hazarat Nabi Muhammad ﷺ are our lords.
Aash Punee Ham Shah Dar PaayaaMy Master is ʿAlī who is the Provider and Protector. Come and meet the Imaam who is your only channel (for salvation). The Imām sees everybody but very few see the Imām (in His essential nature).
Tu(n)hi Gur Tu(n)hi NarO Respectful: O true believers! We have one concern about you and that is that you might confuse Haazar Imām in His physical form as an ordinary man.
Venatee Karu(n) Chhu(n) Saaheb MoraaThe ever-living Lord and Master has his seat in Kahak, manifest in the form of ʿAlī. He is the seventy-seventh vessel and fortieth Imaam, made manifest as Shah Nizar.
Jeerebhaai Qaayam Aayaa Shaahaajeeyu(n)O living brother! Countless felicitations and good news to you as the Everliving has come in the form of the Imām of the time

In contrast, the Qurʼān says:

Say: “I am but a man like yourselves, (but) the inspiration has come to me, that your Allāh is one Allāh: whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and, in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner.
[Qurʼān 18:110]
There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant. He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting. And all of the are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.
[Qurʼān 19:93-95]
Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin.
[Qurʼān 4:48]

Ya Ali Tu Rahem Kar, Ya Mawla Tu Fazal KarO Ali have mercy Upon Us, O Maula (Imam) make make us prosperous
Ya Ali Aghisani, Ya Ali Adrikani, Har Bhala Tu Dur Kar Mushkil Kusha Mawla AliOh Ali, come to my rescue,
Oh Ali come to my help,
Remove all calamities, the remover of difficulties, Oh our Maula Ali
Ya Ali, Ya Muhammad (Also Ya Ali Madad)Oh Ali, Oh Muhammad
(YAM = May Ali help me/you)

In contrast, the Qurʼān states:

Who could be more wrong than the person who calls on those other than God, those who will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, those who are unaware of his prayers, those who, when all mankind is gathered, will become his enemies and disown his worship?
[Qurʼān 46:5-6]
And they worship besides Allāh things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: “These are our intercessors with Allāh.” Say: “Do you inform Allāh of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?” Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners with Him!
[Qurʼān 10:18]
Say: “Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allāh , the Cherisher of the Worlds: No partner hath He: this am I commanded, and I am the first of those who bow to His will.
[Qurʼān 6:162-163]

Allāh= Imām?

“No person to whom God had given the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood would ever say to people, ‘Be my servants, not God’s.’ [He would say], ‘You should be devoted to God because you have taught the Scripture and studied it closely.’”
[Qurʼān 3:79]
And they say, ‘The Lord of Mercy has taken offspring for Himself.’ May He be exalted! No! They are only His honoured servants: they do not speak before He speaks and they act by His command. He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot intercede without His permission––indeed they themselves stand in awe of Him. If any of them were to claim, ‘I am a god beside Him,’ We would reward them with Hell: this is how We reward evildoers.
[Qurʼān 21:26-29]
