Who are the Ismailis?

Who are the Ismailis title 672x372

Ismailis are a self-proclaimed sub-sect of Shia Islam, and are led by Karim Aga Khan, who is a half-European billionaire, a former world-class skier and the one-time stepson of Hollywood’s legendary sex symbol, Rita Hayworth.

He claims direct descent from the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), much like thousands of Muslim ‘syeds‘ living in the South Asian sub-continent, but has rarely been spotted inside any Masjid (Mosque) of the world or offering any prayer, and has never been to the Holy Kaaba, the place where millions of Muslims from around the world gather for the annual Pilgrimage (Hajj) at least once in their lifetimes.

Ismailis, the followers of Aga Khan, practice none of the five pillars of Islam:

  1. Shahadah: Ismailis do not have the same Shahadah as the other Muslims. Their shahadah is ‘There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger, and Ali is the ameer-ul-Momineen, Ali is Allah”.
(Read more on the Ismaili creed in The Nizari Ismaili Trinity)
  2. Prayer: Ismailis do not pray five times a day like the other Muslims do in a Mosque/Masjid. Instead, they offer three prayers a day in their community centers known as Jamatkhanas.
  3. Fasting: Ismailis do not fast during Ramadhan. Instead, they fast three to four days a year on the occasion of “Shukarwari Beej” – the days when Friday coincides with sighting of the moon.
(Read more: Ismailism on Fasting: Saum or Shukrvari Beej)
  4. Zakat: Ismailis do not pay 2.5% Zakat on their wealth to the poor like other Muslims do. Instead, they pay a monthly tithe of 12.5% directly to the Aga Khan. This tithe is called ‘Dasond‘. Ismailis are disallowed to pay Dasond to any charitable organization or to the poor. It has to be paid directly to the Aga Khan through their community centers.
(Read more: The Rejection of Zakat in Ismailism)
  5. Hajj: Ismailis do not go for Hajj, Instead, their Hajj is the sight/glimpse of the Aga Khan himself. At the end of their daily prayer, Ismailis wish the person next to them with the greeting of ‘Shah Jo Deedar’ (meaning that ‘May you have a glimpse of the Shah’). The term Shah is used by the Ismailis to refer to Aga Khan, who is also known as ‘Shah Karim al Husayni’.

Details on the Ismaili Aqeedah

A Ismaili kissing the feet of Karim Aga Khan.

A Ismaili kissing the feet of Karim Aga Khan.

1. The Ismailis (followers of the Aga Khan) all professedly believe that the Quran was time bound and was not meant to be a Universal message for all times. They believe that their spiritual leader, Karim Aga Khan, is the “walking – talking Qur’an” and his “religious pronouncements”, whatever they may be, are the “guidance” for the present times. The fundamental article of faith that there will not be any NEW revelations or “wahy” after the Qur’an, is being completely violated by the Ismailis.

2. The Aga Khan has officially Declared himself, before his followers, as the “Mazhar of Allah on earth”. The word “mazhar” means “copy” or “manifest”. Consequently, these Ismailis who call themselves Muslims do “sujood” before him. So even the primary axiomatic principle of Tawheed is being fundamentally and formally violated by them.

3. The Ismailis are not instructed to offer the Islamic Salaah, observe Saum or perform Hajj. They have replaced Salaah with certain shirk-infested Dua’as (thrice a day). They are told that their Hajj is a personal “Glimpse” (Deedaar) of Karim Aga Khan.

4. The Aga Khan and his appointees ‘forgive the sins’ of the followers on regular basis. Ismailis are misled into believing that they will not be questioned on the Day of Judgment for the sins that are already forgiven in their Jamatkhanas (community centers). Forgiving of sins is the exclusive prerogative and privilege of Allah (swt) alone. Qur’an 3:135.

5. Against this backdrop, most of the poor (spiritually poor) Ismailis who are not introduced to al-Furqan are confused and misguided. Hence, Ismailis are very easy prey to missionary efforts by various Christian groups and Baha’is. I have known a couple of young ex-Ismailis who are today preaching “Pauline Christianity” to Ismailis as evangelical missionaries.

6. Karim Aga Khan’s own daughter Zahra having married a practising Christian has opened the gates for young Ismailis girls to follow the footsteps of a family member of their beloved Imam-e-Zaman. The parents of the Ismaili girls who wish to marry outside of Islam have no recourse but to let them go.

7. The Aga Khan has made Halaal for the Ismailis that which Allah has made Haraam for the Muslims. Taking of interest (usury) is not forbidden by the religious instruction classes run by the “Tariqaah” board of the Ismailis. As a matter of fact, the much publicized “Venture Capital” program (details on the website of FORBES Magazine – search under “Aga Khan”), of loaning funds on interest by the AKFED (Aga Khan Fund &  Economic Development), has been a great success. Similar entrepreneurial projects are now being actively promoted and introduced to poor Muslims of Tajikistan and neighboring areas.

8. The Muslim Ummaah and the various Muslim leaders are not fully aware of these Un-Islamic acts and beliefs of this community of less than two million members, who claim to be the Ismaili Muslims. Surprisingly, their leader Aga Khan claims himself to be a spiritual leader of 15 million Muslims and a Direct Descendant of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam).

9. Earlier, one did not have authentic books on Ismailism, but it is not so anymore. There are two authentic books as well as one comprehensive web site exposing the inner practices of the Ismailis and the Proclamations (Farmans) of the Aga Khans. Hence, now you have no “hujjah” argument or excuse left before Allah (swt) for not taking up the task of inviting the misguided “Ismaili Muslims” towards the Deen of Allah (swt) and not safeguarding them from committing unpardonable sin of Shirk.

10. The Aga Khan in collaboration with so many Western powers and aid, has set up the world-wide Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) which runs several institutions and service companies both in the profit and not for profit sectors. This network is very actively operating in Pakistan, India, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Bangladesh, and has now started concentrating its efforts in Tajikistan and the neighbouring areas where there is a concentration of Muslims who have not known or openly practised Islam for the decades. By taking up economical, social, educational and rural development efforts through NGOs (Non-Govt. Organizations) within the AKDN, the Ismailis and the Aga Khan have gained wide acceptance amongst these countries and masses.

2. History of the Nizari Ismailis

a. Birth of the Fatimids

The Fatimid dynasty was founded by Abdullah al-Mahdi Billah in 909, legitimising his claim through the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, Fatimah as-Zahra, and her husband Ali ibn-Abi-Talib, who was the first Shi’a Imam. The dynasty was known as al-Fatimiyyun “Fatimid.” It began in Ifriqiya which is today’s Tunisia and Eastern Algeria.Abdullah al-Mahdi soon controlled  over all central Maghreb which represents today’s Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, ruled from his newly built capital in Tunisia, Mahdia.

In 900 AD, the Fatimids conquered the Ikhshidid dynasty in Egypt and found a new capital at al-Qahira (Cairo) in 969. After Egypt the Fatimids expanded and ruled from Tunisia to Syria and into Sicily and southern Italy. Palestine, Lebanon, the Red Sea coast of Africa, Yemen and Hejaz all came under their rule. The Fatimids were trading in the Mediterranean, India and China in the Middle Ages. The Fatimids were very liberal and their government was staffed on meritocracy and thus included appointments from other branches of Islam as well as non-Muslims. This liberalism had its exceptions in “Al-Hakim bi-amr Allah.”

b. Decay and Fall of the Fatimids

The Fatimid governors of North Africa, the Zirids, were influenced by Sunni  Islam and declared their independence from Cairo in 1040 which triggered the Banu Hilal invasion of the lands controlled by the Fatimid’s. Fatimids lost control of the Levant coast as well as parts of Syria by 1070 being challenged by the Turks, and later the Cursaders also destroyed much of their control in that area, and the Fatimid empire shrank to just Egypt. The crusaders captured Jerusalem in July 1099 from the Fatimid garrison following 5 weeks of siege.

In 1160 the Fatimid political system collapsed. The Zengid ruler Nur ad-Din with his general Shirkuh took over Egypt in 1169, but Shirkuh died two months later and his nephew, Saladin took over power, beginning the Ayyubid Dynasty.

After the collapse of the Fatimid in the 12th century, the “Assassins” survived in Persia (Iran) as the Nizari Ismaili, considered a heretical branch of the Shia sect. However, the Shah of Persia, granted one of their member the title of the Aga Khan in 1818. But in 1840, there was an abortive coup on the next Shah, and the Aga Khan decided to flee Persia for India. In India the Aga Khan and his descendants remained leaders of the Agakhani Ismailis till today.

The Aga Khan is internationally known for his association with thoroughbred racing horses in the racing world in Europe and America. Then the world learned of Aga Khan III’s gift from his followers of gold, platinum, and diamonds equal in weight to his body weight. Then the famous marriage of Prince Aly Khan Karim Aga Khan’s father to actress Rita Hayworth and his role as leader of Pakistani’s delegation to the United  Nations. Again Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan served as High Commissioner for Refugees in the United Nations. And more recently Karim Aga Khan was named Commander of the French Legion of Honour for services to humanity.

However, the ancestors of the Aga Khan Ismailis were Hindus who were converted to the Ismaili faith by Pirs (authorised preachers) who came from Persia some 7 centuries ago. These converts adopted the Islamic Tariqah.

The original Ismaili  faith grew from the Fatimid Caliphate in Cairo described above. Fatimid Ismailis recited the canonical Islamic prayers in mosques five times a day, as opposed to the conventional Islmaili (Agakhabi Ismailis) who pray 3 times a day. They observed Ramadhan and  the Hajj.

The roots of the Agakhani Ismailis, who are Shia Imami Khojah, evolved in  the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent, and their conversion from Hinduism has gone through various phases of proselytisation. Thus for the past 150 years, Agakhani Ismailis have digressed so much from the original Fatimid Ismailis that todays Agakhani Ismaili practices bear little resemblance to that of the original practices.

Under Article 14 of the Constitution of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims (1986), any Ismaili who prints, publishes, or circulates any material or makes any statement of convenes a meeting or assembly purporting to be  on behalf of, or in the name of, or relating to, the Imam, the Ismaili Tariqah, the Jama’ at (a congregation of community,) and any Ismaili Council or Institution without the written permission of the national Council within whose jurisdiction he or she resides shall be liable to disciplinary action, and the offender can be expelled from the community.

3. Ismaili Practices

Ismailis claim to be an off-shoot of Shia, however the Shia unanimously reject them. Ismailis believe in the succession of the Imams to the present.

A Ismaili priest performing a ritual

A Ismaili priest performing a ritual

Ismaili beliefs are syncretic (reconciliation with other beliefs), including philosophies from Aristotle, Plotinus, Pythagoras, gnosticism, the Manichaeans, Judaism, Christianity, and Eastern religions. Their beliefs of the creation of the world is idiosyncratic.  Their ecumenism, tolerance of religious differences, and religious hierarchy is equally idiosyncratic. The Ismaili separation of Islamic theology into exoteric (conservative Shariah) and esoteric (mystical exegesis of the Quran and inner truth) creates the mysticism that makes the sect extremely complex and mysterious. All these practices and beliefs are veiled in secluded secrecy and the Ismailis believe that these beliefs should be guarded and shielded from unbelievers of their faith. Hence Ismailis believe in the practice of “Taqiyya” for self-protection of their faith. Taqiyya is a practice adopted by most Shia and is is also permitted in the Sunni Sect. In fact it is a practice in Islam as well as in the larger Islamic community.

4. The Separation of Ismailis from Orthodox Shia

A disagreement arose over the successor to the 6th imam, Ja’far al-Sadiq.  The Ismailis chose Isma’il tracing the imamat through Isma’il’s son Muhammad and his progenies. But the majority of the Shia recognised the 12 imams, descendants of Ismail’s brother Musa al-Kazim. Thus the separation of the ways began. The Ismailis two main branches in India are the Musta’lis (Bohras) and the Nizaris (Khojas) who are led by the Aga Khan.

The fame of the Aga Khan and his family through their prominence in the international political, economic, and social circles has served to aggrandise the Ismaili faith even though this sect represents approximately 0.1 percent of the Muslim world.

Shia Islam vs. Aga Khani Ismaili

(Aga Khani Ismaili practices seen as blasphemous by orthodox Shia Muslims.)

(1) The orthodox Muslim’s article of faith that there will not be any new revelations or “wahy” after the Qur’an. This is violated by the Ismailis. Agakhani Ismailis believe that the Qur’an was time bound and therefore not the immutable word of Allah. Ismailis believe that whatever their spiritual leader, the Aga Khan, may pronounce will be  the guidance for the present. (This challenges the immutability, “wahy” of the Koran.)

(2)  The principle of Tawheed has been violated by the Ismailis because The Aga Khan as declared himself the “Mazhar of Allah on earth.” Mazhar is translated as “copy” or “manifest” and hence has defied Muhammad as the “Last of the Prophets.” [5] This is a very serious point with orthodox Islam, that Muhammad is the last of the prophets. That all those who come after him are but false prophets.

(3)  The Agakhani Ismailis are not commanded to offer the Islamic Salaah, observe Saum, or perform Hajj. They have replaced Salaah with Dua’as (thrice a day.) They are told that their Hajj is a personal “Glimpse” (Deedaar) of Karim Aga Khan.

(4)  Qur’an 3:135 clearly states that the forgiving of sins is the prerogative of Allah (swt) alone. Yet, the Aga Khan and his appointees will “forgive the sins” of their followers  and will not be questioned on the Day of Judgement for sins that are already forgiven in their Jamatkhanas (Ismaili community centres.) Thus defying the authority of Allah.

(5) Thus these esoteric views, deviant from orthodox Islam and the Qur’an can be very confusing and divisive to both Ismailis and orthodox Muslims and weakens the orthodox ideologies.

(6)  The Aga Khan has made Halal for the Ismailis that which Allah has made Haraam for Muslims such as the matter of Usury (interest on loans).   Usury is not forbidden by the “Tariqaah” board of the Ismailis. The Aga Khan lends funds on interest by the AKFED (Aga Khan Fund & Economic Development.)

A History of the Ismaili Movement and Conclusion of the World Muslim League
Ismailis were Muslims in name only, as they adhered to their ancient occult  traditions of the Sabians. Although the earlier Ismailis did not deviate from the central tenets of Islam, it was through the influence of Abdullah ibn Maymun that the movement became subversive of Islam and also of all other religions. All this began when a charismatic leader, Abdullah ibn Maymun, a member of the Brethen of Purity, became the leader of the Ismaili movement around 872 AD.

Maymun was a follower of the Mesopotamian Gnostic heretic Bardasanes and a Soroastrian dualist and was a Gnostic and well versed in all religions  of the time. Maymun used Islam as a front. It was he who created the seven degrees of initiation for the Batinis.

One of Maymin’s devotees was Hamdan Qarmat the founder of Qaramintah which was predominant in Arabia. He introduced concepts from the Gnostic dualism that permitted them to pillage, to abandon prayer, fasting and other traditional Islamic rituals. This resulted in the growth of popularity of the Qaramintah sect  that grew, similar to the growth of Islam in Muhammad’s era, into a powerful and fearsome band of brigands. The Qaramitah dominated Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain and extended their ravages westwards. They controlled Mecca after the slaughter of 30,000 defending Muslims.

However, the majority of Ismailis believed in the succession of the Imam in keeping with the traditions of the Fatimid dynasty who had their own caliph and had their capital in Cairo in 973. The founder of the Fatimis Dynasty was Ubeidullah, known as the Mahdi, who claimed descent through  a line of “hidden imams,” from Muhammad, son of Ismail, and through him, from Fatimah the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. However, after the Fatimid establishment of their power in Egypt, the substance of the Fatimid teachings was little different from the code of Abdullah Ibn Maymun, and his more violent initiate, Qarmat.

So we conclude that by the 10th century, the Fatimids, Bardasanes, the Soroastrians, the Qaramintah ideologies had all but amalgamated into one  intermingled ideology and tradition. Ismailis were in fact a splinter group that were only Muslims in name, and had deviated from the Sunni and Shia traditions and ideologies of Islam. Preceding the Qadianis by almost 1,000 years, the Ismailis were not of the fold of Islam as defined by The World Muslim League.

  1. In my opinion, Shias & Sunnis have, sooner or later, to come to a point of minimum differences thru ilm. No doubt, the Sunnis seem to be annoyed of Ismailis calling themselves as Muslims, despite the former having totally divergent beliefs/practicez than what the Sunnis practice & Believe as Fundamentals. But the beliefs of Ismailis are of greater torture-feelings to Shias bcz Ismailis want to enter into the Religion Islam under the cloak of Shi’ite Islam.

  2. Fraudster Filthy Imam and his fraudulent religion that is a cult created by the fake Imam. Who hated Islam mainly his Iranian ancestral Shia sect and rejected Islam and created the Hindu-Ismaili cult like mixed Pickles.
How did an atheist become an Imam? He is a sinner committed major sins against Allah, who knows all what
this dajjal is doing. Misguiding the innocent followers against Allah and Islam.
It is shocking that he is such a good liar, cheater, deceiver and a looter. Running after money. Looting the blood
money from his followers on false rituals. Why can’t these intelligent followers see his treacherous tricks?
Are they completely possessed by the evil Iblis?
I pray to Allah to open their eyes and freed them from the claws of dajjal.

Muslims hode the bad about others and leave the judgement to ALLAH. You say you are a Muslim. Ask yourself if you trully are Muslim yourself to begin with before judging others especially his highness prince Karim AGAKHAN who all the people with intellect and education admire. He is a statesman without a country. He is the king of kings. All the heads of all countries look up to him with pride affection, respect and more. So Gulsun you are lucky that i give you a chance to repent for your mis judgement.

There will always be questions regarding religions and whose religion is the best but ismailism is just plain and pure deception and agakhan’s business.

    • As-Salamu Aleikum wa Rahmatul LLAAH, brother Karim. I hope you are well.

If you are a true Ismaili, then you have to read the Translation of the Holy Quran.
Allow me to recommend “The Study Quran”, which is a new Translation of the Book of GOD, THE ABSOLUTE, made by a group of Scholars under the supervision of Seyyed Hussein Nasr, a prestigious shia muslim scholar who teaches Islam and Islamic Sciences in a well known american university.
I recommend this Translation because of the huge and rich commentary It has of the Passages of the Holy Quran.
It is cheap and can be bought at Amazon.

Nizari Ismailis, Mustali Tayyibi Ismailis, Twelvers, Sunnis, Sufis, Ibadis, Wahabis, are first and foremost Muslims!! So as Muslims, they have to abide by the Holy Quran.

I have heard Agha Karim Shah saying countless times for his Jammat to abide by the Book of ALLAH TA’ALA.
From the past 20 years he is recommending the Jammat to pray thr Islamic Salah 5 times a day and has instructed the Jamatkhanas to have proper spaces for Salah.

Ismaili Muslims are divided into 2 major groups:
      – The Nizari Ismailis, who ate followers of Agha Karim Shah;
      – The Mustali Tayyibis, also know as Bohras, who believe their Imam is hidden, so until their appearance they follow a Dai Al-Mutlaq.

The Bohras are 100% Muslims. They believe in ALLAH above everything else, pray the 5 Daily Salah, read the Quran, etc.

The Nizari Ismailis number aproximatelly 3 million people, of which, the Khojas are a small minority.
It is my belief, and I say my belief because I did not made a deep research, that the overwhelming majority of Nizari Ismailis believe strongly in ALLAH, perform the 5 Daily Salah, and all othet duties prescribed by the Holy Quran.

Though I made a commentary below criticising the Nizari Ismailis, I was refering to the Khojas.
The Khojas are the ones who, by worshipping Karim Shah as a god, are totally out of Islam. The majority of Nizaris who are not khoja behave like normal muslims.

If you, my dear brother, study carefully the history of the Nizari Ismailis, you will acknowledge that until Ali Shah, your 47th Imam, Khojas behaved as all muslims.

The Holy Quran constantly urges It’s readers to use their Intellects to arrive at the Truths It Discloses.

And the Holy Quran teaches Muslims not to behave as robots. Muslims have to read The Holy Book in their Mother Tongues and use their Intellects throughout their lives.

Having said this, in the Islam of the Holy Quran, which is the Islam I follow, there are no tabus!! Everything can be peacefully discussed, because this is one of the Ways to acquire Knowledge.

So, you should not be bothered if someone criticizes your Imam.
Some people will support him and some will criticize him.
After all, I never heard Karim Shah say that he is infallible. Much on the contrary!! He says he is a human. And humans make mistakes!!
There is a well known saying of Imam Jaffar Sadiq where he says to his students that, if they see him act against the Holy Quran they should immediatly tell him.

Muslims thrived for 1000 years and no one could match us, because they were sincere towards ALLAH TA’ALA and that sincerity made them live according to the Holy Quran.

The reazon muslims are misguided today is precisely because they not know dive in the Ocean of the Holy Quran!!

Imam Ali (as), the first imam of all Shia Muslims said:
“If you understand ALLAH’S Majesty, then you will attach no importance to HIS creatures.

I also advise you to read The Nahjul Balaghah, in English, The Peak of Eloquence. From It you will acquire a lot of Knowledge
      In Shaa ALLAH TA’ALA.

Believe me, I have many khojas in my family.

To end, you should not say, my dear brother, that so and so can not judge so and so. Because the Holy Quran was revealed precisely to make common humans know the difference between Truth and Falsehood. One of the names of the Quran is “Al-Furqan”, in English, That which separates Right from Wrong.

But read the Holy Quran my brother. In Shaa ALLAH you will benefit from It.

      I pray to ALLAH TA’ALA,
      THE ABSOLUTE,
THE BEYOND-BEING, for HIM, THE PURE, to guide you to the Staight Path.

A very warm good bie brother.

  4. The above pictures are of the well known ismiali scholar Allama Naseer ud din Naseer Hunzai (RIP) who was the most achieved scholar, humble, and extremely wise personality. The pictures above donot refer to lust, rather it is a sign of pure selflessness (what islam teaches) and showing respect and honour the women as “the heaven lies under the feet of women”. Its rightly said that the perception is what matters, or should I say that beauty lies in the eye of beholder. Furthurmore lookup the books and lectures of Allama sahib and one can find out the level of worldly and spiritual knowledge did he had. He was approached by the ismiali Imam “His highness prince Karim Agha khan” (who needs no introduction as one of the finest personalities this , just look him up on a more educational platform rather than childish youtube videos or blogs),Allama sahib was approached by Barak Obama as well for the wonderful books he had written , He was also awarded an honorary PhD and approached by Oxford for furthur research in his work.

Now about Ismialism, its simple. Balance between Deen and Dunya and understanding of Islam as the essence of teachings in islam and believe in education, bonds and progress by a teacher of Holy Quran (who is a successor of prophet Muhammad PBUH himself) rather than the terrorists and maulvis in masjids nowadays(“known as wahabis who actually defamed the beautiful Islam”). There is so much more but Ill end by saying read books by Allama Sahib and others from IIS (Institute of ismialic studies London) and do your research rather than believeing crap (pardon my language) on the internet.
Salam.Have a nice day and may Allah give you and all of us guidance

“To ALLAH belong the Most Beautiful Names, so call HIM by them, and disregard those who blaspheme HIS names. They will be repaid for what they used to do.”
(Holy Quran, Surah 7, Ayah 180)

Now, the truth is that Islam’s purpose is to turn the attention of humans and jinns towards ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE.
    All Prophets sent by ALLAH,
THE BEYOND-BEING, taught La ilaha illal LLAAH, in English, The is no deity except GOD.

    La ilaha illal LLAAH means:

    a) that you acknowledge that ALLAH TA’ALA IS THE SOLE DEITY. HE IS INCOMPARABLE and TOTALLY TRANSCENDENT. HE IS THE SOLE CREATOR of everything. HE ALONE sustains HIS entire creation.
HE IS BEYOND-BEING and has no resemblance with HIS creatures.
HE IS ABOVE time and space.
Multiplicity and division, increase and decrease, do not apply to
    HIS HOLY ESSENCE.
Everything and everybody are absolutely nothing in front of HIM, THE OWNER of Majesty and Honor.

    b) that HE ALONE (SWT) deserves to be worshipped by HIS creation.
This means, besides it’s known meaning, that one has to turn to ALLAH ALONE for help, has to acknowledge that ONLY ALLAH TA’ALA IS one’s PROTECTOR, and has to deny saint-worship, and can not exagerate about ALLAH’S creatures like Prophet Muhammad (saw) Imam Ali (ra) and others.
    ALLAH TA’ALA says:
“So remember the Name of your LORD, and devote yourself to HIM wholeheartedly.
LORD of the East and the West. There is no god but HE, so take HIM as a PROTECTOR.”
(Holy Quran, Surah 73, Ayat 8 and 9)

Having said that, it is obvious that the overwhelming majority of Nizari Ismailis are totally out of Islam, and are a different religion.
They worship a human being, the Agha Khan.

Nizari Ismailism, was stripped of all Islamic tenets, which were replaced by Polytheism, Hindu Rituals and Christian Rituals (like asking forgiveness of sins to the mukis and kamadias).
The author of all this was Sultan Muhammad Shah, considered by Nizari Ismailis as their 48th Imam.

Ascribing partners to ALLAH TA’ALA, is sufficient to place out of Islam someone who does that.
Believing in TAWHID, in English, THE ABSOLUTE ONENESS and TRANSCENDENCE of ALLAH TA’ALA, is the essence of Islam. It is everything!!!

Nizari Ismaism, besides being Polytheistic, has no 5 Daily Salah, no fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadhan, no Zakat, etc.
It resembles Pauline Christianity which is totally centered in the Person of Jesus and pays no regard to the Commandments of their distorted version of the Bible.
Similarly, Nizari Ismailism is totally centered in the person of the Imam and no attention is given to the teachings of the Holy Quran.

It is the only religion in the entire World without a Clergy. Their so-called clerics have no Instruction in Religion and are appointed by the Imam on the basis of their wealth, not knowledge!!

Agha Khan considers Civil Marriage between an ismaili and a Christian (for example), or even between two ismailis as sufficient, being the religious ceremony optional.

There is a lot more to say but due to shortage of time on my part, I’ll end my comment here, advising all Muslim brothers and sisters to make a daily habit of reading the Translation of the Holy Quran in your own mother tongues. The Holy Quran, being a Message of ALMIGHTY GOD, THE TRANSCENDENT, to all mankind, has to be properly translated into everyone’s language and read primarily in one’s own language.
If muslims are so backwards today, the reason for that is that they do not read and understand the Holy Quran in their own languages.
So, don’t allow those few fanatic imams to mislead you, by keeping you away from the Translation of the Holy Quran!!

  10. ALMIGHTY GOD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO IS TRULY REAL.

In the Name of ALMIGHTY GOD, THE ONE, THE ABSOLUTE.

    Bi idhnil LLAAHI TA’ALA,

I just want to add the following to this article.

Although the overwhelming majority of Nizari Ismailis are totally out pf Islam, there is an Ismaili Shia Muslim School of Thought that is totally Muslim:

    The Tayyibi Bohra Ismaili Muslims.
This group of Muslims number 600 thousand in the Indian State pf Gujrat, almost 1 million in Saudi Arabia’s southern region of Najran, and 20 thousand people in the Pakistani City of Karachi.
They also have a 5 thousand community in the UK.
In March 2013, in one of my trips to London, I had the priviledge to perform Salatul Maghrib and Salatul Isha behind a Tayyibi Ismaili Muslim Imam, in a Bohra Masjid. They pray like all muslims.

Prior to 2013, I made a research about Tayyibi Ismaili Shia Muslims, and they are as much Muslims as are Sunnis or Twelver Shias.
They firmly believe in THE ONENESS and TRANSCENDENCE of ALMIGHTY GOD, THE PURE, pray the Islamic Salah 5 times a day, fast in the Holy Month of Ramadhan, perform Hajj to the Holy City of Makkah and abide by the Holy Quran and Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah.

So, when we speak of Ismailis, we have to bear in mind that there is a group of Ismailis who are 100% Muslim, namely, The Tayyibi Ismaili Shia Muslims.

I end my commentary by urging all muslim brothers and sisters to read the Translation of the Holy Quran in your own Mother Languages and to abide by It.

If all muslims do this, they will know the Will of ALMIGHTY GOD,
THE BEYOND-BEING, and will realise that the differences between us are very very few, In Shaa ALLAH TABÁRAK WA TA’ALA.

Wassalamu Aleikum wa Rahmatul LLAAHI TA’ALA wa Barakatuhu.
